Round about 1998, Dennis Wright decided to build a replica 18th century Royal Navy cannon.   Why you might ask?   Well - why not?

Having built it - what to do with it - look at and admire it - or how about pulling it round Cornwall?

I suspect that during the course of a convivial evening at  The Hewas Inn with fellow imbibers, the latter alternative was approved in a rash moment.   After all, if you can't pull a "bird" any more - why not pull a cannon?   Since then this initial nucleus of volunteers has steadily grown and now includes a ladies team too!

The half ton cannon is regularly pulled around Cornwall raising money for local charities and to date (March 2010) over £30,000 has been donated to charities such as Cornwall Air Ambulance, The Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, The Merlin Project, Pencalenick Specialist School, Doubletrees Special Needs School and Precious Lives Appeal.

2008 saw an extremely poignant pull organised "in memory of Amy" with the proceeds going to the Precious Lives Appeal.   Amy had been involved with the team for many years but sadly died at the tender age of 24 in September 2007.

The Sticker Cannon Pullers are now a registered charity (1003314) and donations are always welcome - contact Dennis Wright in Sticker on 01726 64913 or mobile 07916 125515 - or follow the cannon and fill the buckets - see posters of coming events on this web site.

Easter weekend 2010 saw a three day pull from RNAS Culdrose to the Light Infantry Museum in Bodmin with the proceeds from money donated going to the Help for Heroes Charity.   The team was made up of the usual Sticker "gluttons for punishment" with help of members from the three services.

The event raised £6000 which was presented to David Gamel - the Help for Heroes representative, at the Hewas Inn in Sticker on the 14th May.

Press reports about the event can be accessed via the Press Reports link and a selection of photographs can be viewed using the Easter Photographs link - both at the top left of this page.
