Carnival week 2008

St. Marks and The Methodist churches jointly started off the week with a successful Cornish Evening in the village hall on Friday the 20th June.

Unfortunately bad weather resulted in the  Saturday Fete being cancelled but Sticker AFC staged the annual 5 mile road race and fun run as scheduled.

Sunday saw the village hall filled with fairies and queens for our annual Queen of Queens competition.   Another very successful event and hopefully there will be some photographs here in due course!   The evening was a brain teaser with a quiz in the Hewas Inn.

Tuesday evening was Bingo night hosted by Sticker WI as usual.

A Walking Treasure Hunt took place on Wednesday evening.   This was a family event with a BBQ an event that has not been held for many years.

The Village Players put on their Summer Show on Thursday and Friday evening - both evenings playing to a full house.   Video clips  can be seen opposite

Dilly Racing took place on Saturday - an enjoyable event with a good turnout.   Additional events taking place were Smash for Cash, Paint your Wagon, a BBQ and cream teas.    Hopefully, some photos will be added to the page later.

Finally Sunday was Carnival Day.   Contrary to last year's bad weather, this year's fine weather produced a carnival procession considered to be the best for several years.   Again, photos are awaited to add to the page!

All in all - a very good week with favourable weather apart from the first Saturday.   Financially, a much better year than recent years with a surplus of £1791 going to Village Association funds - this despite there being no Fete this year!

Many thanks to The Community Group and all who helped in making the week a success - not forgetting the local firms who generously gave monetary donations or prizes for the annual raffle which took place on Carnival Day.

                                              Carnival Week 2007

Sticker Carnival Week kicked off on  on Friday the 15th June with St. Marks Church hosting a Gilbert & Sullivan evening in the village hall.

Saturday dawned bright and clear ready for the annual fete at 2pm in the lower playing field.   This was well attended by villagers checking out the variety of stalls, spending their money and partaking of a cream tea in the sunshine.   The more energetic tested their skills at the football goal shootout.

On Sunday The Village Association hosted a Queen of Queens competition in the village hall which was well attended by other local carnival queens and fairy kings and queens.

The W.I. hosted an evening of Bingo on Tuesday in the village hall.

Wednesday saw Sticker Community Group running a quiz in the evening - also in the village hall.

Thursday and Friday evenings were devoted to the stage show "Just Do It 2012" by Sticker Village Players.   Another well attended excellent show following on from their pantomime success in March.   A selection of photos can be seen opposite.

Saturday saw the second annual Dilly Racing competition - much bigger and better than the previous year and luckily the weather maintained its fine run.   a selection of photos can be seen  in the photo gallery opposite.    In the evening Sticker AFC hosted the annual 5 mile run and also a fun run.

Sunday, however, opened with heavy rain and it was touch and go as to whether the Carnival Procession would have to be cancelled.   At the last moment the rain stopped and the event was able to go ahead.   Unfortunately the playing field was far too muddy to risk floats so the procession assembled in the adjacent car park before setting off on the tour of the village behind St. Stephen Band

All in all a very successful fund raising week which as well as raising money for individual village groups also raised well over £1500 for the Village Association projects.

Carnival Week 2006

Sticker Carnival Week 2006 enjoyed excellent weather.   The week commenced with the annual fete in the lower playing field, where the active participated in penalty shootout competitions, the less active ambled round the craft and bric-a-brac stalls and the inactive sat enjoying cream teas whilst watching the world (well - Sticker anyway!) pass by.
A new venture this year was "dilly" racing which took place in a neighbouring field by courtesy of Michael Grigg.   An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed an afternoon's sport and a repeat next year was called for - hopefully this year's experience will mean bigger and better next time!   Another new venture was "Stickerly Come Dancing" arranged by the Village Players and this proved to be very popular.
The week ended as usual with the carnival.   Unfortunately the entries were few and far between which was very disappointing for those who put a lot of time and effort into the arrangements and entries.   This year the Queen of Queens competition staged in the village hall earlier in the week also lacked support - as did the big screen video evening which replaced the summer show.   Nevertheless about £1000 was raised towards additional playing field equipment.   Thanks to everyone who helped organise the week or helped out on the day, companies who donated prizes for our raffle and the public who delved into their pockets and purses.
Some photographic memories from the week appear in the Gallery opposite.
