Latest News

Grass seeding and planting of "the face" on the slide mound finally took place in July.

Hopefully children will give them a chance to grow.

We are still experiencing mindless vandalism in the field!

Finally - Sticker Activity Park opened fully for use on the 31st of March.

The short two week window of fine weather earlier in March eventually allowed the landscaping to be completed. However, the renewed adverse weather conditions means that there has still been no seeding or planting - hopefully the weather will be kinder in April and let Pengelly get on with seeding and planting shrubs and trees.   All the equipment can now be used but children are asked not to clamber around the large hill - if they want to use the slide they should use the pull up rope, or, use the gentle path situated at the opposite end by the Zip Wire stand.   The official opening of the park will take place on the 31st of May and details of events for that day will be publicised nearer the time.   With a bit of luck the mud will be gone and the grass etc will be growing.

The following photos were taken in Spring 2010 - unsuitable weather prevented  planting or grass seeding.

Latest News - None unfortunately - the continuing adverse weather conditions means no further work has been started and looks unlikely for some time.   The hoped for complete reopening of the field now looks like February but it all hinges on when the ground starts to dry out.   The skateboard unit seems to be popular but just a reminder - please keep off the two large mounds of earth.

All the new equipment for the St Stephen Road playing field has now been installed and thanks go to Brian and his team from TaylorMade in St. Mawgan for working continuously through the recent appalling weather.

Unfortunately the heavy equipment used has resulted in the ground becoming a quagmire and the final landscaping will now have to wait until the ground dries out somewhat.

We realise that the new equipment will be very tempting to children and it will be difficult to keep them out of the field because it looks as though the work is finished.   However, after landscaping is done, planting of flowers, shrubs and trees still has to be done so we do not want the ground messed up any more than it already is.   Whilst our recommendation is that the field is not used until the official opening (hopefully early January) if children do go in they will find that the Zip , the tube slide, the pull up ramp and the birdsnest swing have been disabled so they cannot be used.   Specifically we would ask that no one climbs on the new big hill or the adjacent mound of earth until further notice.   The PC hopes it will have your co-operation because after spending around £60K on this project we don't want the end result spoilt for the sake of a little patience!

St. Mewan PC  succeeded in obtaining a grant of £50K from Playbuilder UK to enable the upgrade of the St. Stephen Road Playing Field to a natural play area.   Local children were surveyed to ascertain what equipment they would like in the area and their responses were used by local landscape architect, Rob McGuinness, to design a base plan for submission to 3 play equipment firms for quotations.   A local firm was chosen from these submissions and additionally, local firms were chosen for groundwork preparation, natural sculpting (trees, logs, rocks etc) and also for tree, shrub and flower planting.

There was then a public consultation in the village hall where children were shown four alternative layouts/equipment based on their original suggestions and tailored to match the funding available.   Luckily all but one child chose the same design!

Confirmation of this went to the preferred contractors in September 2009.

A fallen tree and tree stumps were installed and earthworks commenced mid October.

Following the unsuccessful bid for funding from the ITV People's Millions project we have been constantly applying in other directions.   As mentioned below we managed to obtain a grant from the CCPFA of £500 and a further one this year of £450 from the parish council.   With a donation of £300 from a local businessman we then put together another project and approached Restormel B.C. for a grant of £10,000.   This bid was successful in August 2008.

This funding, plus funds already held by the Village Association enabled us to approach Hags Play Ltd with an improvement plan for the lower playing field.   A new double cradle swing, a new double flat swing, a Multi Pondo, a springer and a picnic table will be installed in September.   Because of the size of the now mandatory safety surfaces with new installations, in order to make room for the new equipment we have had to remove the existing single swing and the igloo.   However the new items will more than make up for their loss!

On the 12th September 2008, Hags Play Ltd completed installation of new play equipment and safety surfacing in the Sticker Lower playing field. To release space for the new items the old igloo and single juvenile swing were removed. A new double juvenile swing and a double cradle swing have been installed together with a multi pondo and a springer. All these have safety matting surfaces. Additionally a picnic bench/table has been installed. This upgrade will provide facilities for a wider range of ages than previously.

The cost to Sticker Village Association was in the region of £13K – but the project was only feasible because of the help of grants from Restormel BC, CCFPA, St. Mewan PC and a private donation. The balance needed came from Village Association funds raised during Carnival Week.

The single juvenile swing removed, plus a new one obtained as part of the above project will be installed in the top playing field thereby providing two juvenile and two cradle swings.

Photos of the new equipment can be seen below.

Grant Success

The CCPFA recently awarded a £500 grant towards the above project and Mr Colin Kneller - the president of Sticker Village Association - was presented with a cheque on the 12th November 2007.
